Every custom and semi-custom builder we could verify across Ada and Canyon County, with published ratings, BBB records, price bands, and the public complaint history that doesn't show up in a sales center. Filter it, shortlist it, and bring your top three to us.
How to read this
Every rating here was verified builder by builder in August 2026 against pages that republish Google Business Profile reviews (Birdeye, Chamber of Commerce and similar), since Google blocks direct collection. Houzz and BBB customer review scores appear beneath the Google figure where they exist, and a few ratings are marked aggregate where the source blends platforms. Treat counts as accurate to within a few reviews and verify the live profile before you make a decision on it.
A missing rating is not a bad rating. A true custom builder doing six homes a year will never accumulate the review volume of a builder doing two hundred. For those firms, weigh BBB history, Parade of Homes record, and years in business more heavily than stars.
BBB accreditation is a paid membership, not a quality grade. Several of the strongest builders here carry an A+ while declining to pay for accreditation.
Public record items worth a direct question
These are attributed to public sources: the Idaho Attorney General, the Better Business Bureau, the Idaho Supreme Court, and BoiseDev's reporting. None of it is our characterization. All of it is worth raising with the builder directly, and most of it has a reasonable explanation. Ask.
Plantation Construction (Rick Williams, Star)
Under active investigation by the Idaho Attorney General's Consumer Protection Division as of February 2026. The original LLC was dissolved in December 2024 after two lawsuits; a new LLC under the same name in lowercase was registered in April 2025 at the same Star address. Court judgments reported in excess of $200,000.

Holds an A+ and is BBB accredited, but the file shows 11 complaints closed in three years, four in the last twelve months. Recurring themes: roof and stucco workmanship, warranty claims denied for issues surfacing inside the window, HVAC failures under two years. One reviewer reported seven different site supervisors across a 23-month build. They are the highest-volume on-your-lot builder in Canyon County, so read the count against their scale.

BBB rating of C+, downgraded for failure to respond to a complaint. Review themes praise design and location while criticizing execution detail and warranty response. The weakest review profile among the true custom builders here.

BBB rating of B−, downgraded specifically for failure to respond to one complaint. A homeowner reported ice damming traced to ventilated soffits omitted from the front elevation. Google sits at 4.5 while the Houzz aggregate is 3.9 across 11 reviews. This is a responsiveness gap, not a verdict on build quality.

A+ at BBB and 4.6 on Google, but a visible BBB customer review describes significant workmanship issues including structural and moisture-related defects in a five-year-old home. Small sample against a large review base, and worth one direct question.

Was the plaintiff builder in the Terra Nativa foothills landslide litigation. In March 2023 the Idaho Supreme Court affirmed summary judgment against BrunoBuilt as time-barred (Docket 49176). This is not a finding of builder misconduct, but any foothills slope project warrants its own independent geotechnical review regardless of builder.

"Tradition Building Company" and "Tradition Custom Homes" appear as two records with two different phone numbers in the same small town, and the entity also files under Sunrise Home Building, Tradition Development, and Tradition Pools and Spas. Confirm which legal entity appears on your contract.

The company website describes itself as a BBB-accredited business. The BBB record as of August 2026 shows A+ but not accredited. Minor, but it's a marketing claim that doesn't match the record.

Two Birdeye profiles show conflicting figures: 4.3 across 45 reviews on one, 4.2 across 42 on another. Likely duplicate Google Business Profiles for the office and the sales center. Verify which is primary before weighing the rating.

Shadow Mountain Homes' BBB profile is Not Rated and describes the business as no longer operating, while the builder has a live site and a 2026 Parade home at Valor in Kuna. Conner Construction's BBB A+ record sits under the predecessor entity Chris Conner Construction, established 1985; the current entity was founded in 2016 by the second generation. Both read as directory lag rather than closures. Confirm the operating entity on your contract.

Yelp flags both Boise addresses as closed. Ted Mason has demonstrably relocated to Eagle and remains A+ and accredited. That's a stale Yelp record, not a closure. Amyx still shows active at BBB but has no current marketing presence; confirm directly before engaging.
