TL;DR

Power is Idaho Power and gas is Intermountain Gas. Call Kuna Utility Billing to start city water and sewer, and order trash through Kuna City Hall. File your homestead exemption with Ada County after you move in, because it does not carry over from the seller.

Property tax and the homestead exemption

Two county offices matter: the assessor, where you file the homestead exemption, and the treasurer, who collects the tax.

Homeowner's exemption (Ada County Assessor)

Takes 50% off the taxable value of your primary home and up to one acre, capped at $125,000.

How to start: File online, by mail, by email or in person. The seller's exemption does not carry over to you.

Lead time: File after you own and live in the home. To count for this tax year, file by the last business day of December.

Is your home outside city limits?

A Kuna mailing address does not mean the home is inside Kuna city limits. Homes outside city limits often have different services.

  • Water may come from a private well instead of a city or water company.
  • Sewer may be a septic system that you own and maintain.
  • Trash goes through the county or a private hauler, not the city.
  • Check the county property map below to see if the home is inside city limits.

Hardin Sanitation (outside city limits, Ada County)

Required trash and recycling for homes outside city limits in Ada County. Homes inside a city use that city's hauler.

How to start: Ada County bills this service. Call Ada County Trash Billing at (208) 577-4710 to set up billing. Call Hardin for carts.
